The 17th APEC Roundtable Meeting on the Involvement of the Business/Private Sector in Sustainability of the Marine Environment was held in Taipei from 31 August to 2 September 2016. 30 officials, experts scholars and NGO representatives from member economies of Chile, China, Japan, Korea, Peru, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Vietnam attended the meeting.
The meeting is a routine project carried out by the Chinese Taipei in the framework of the APEC Ocean and Fisheries Working Group (OFWG). Assistant researcher Yang Wei attended the forum as a member of the State Oceanic Administration delegation, and presented the report of "Blue Economy in China's Development Practice: Taking Xiamen as an Example", and introduced the ways and measures of Xiamen in the development of blue economy, and raised her idea on how to develop blue economy.
The meeting focused on the blue economy and marine waste, and discussed the blue economic development model, marine waste control and marine ecological environment protection and other contents. In addition, the meeting also invited a number of NGOs to show their publicity in the marine environmental protection concept, marine waste recycling and other achievements and efforts, and attracted wide attention of the participants. Through this meeting, our participants understand the trends of blue economy and marine debris management of other economies and promoted our policies in the two areas
