On November 3, 2016, "International Workshop on Ecosystem Management of Ocean Parks in China and ASEAN countries" was held in Xiamen, Fujian. Representatives from the State Oceanic Administration's Department of Eco-Environmental Protection, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources Management of the Ministry of Environment and Resources of Thailand, the Marine Parks Administration of Malaysia, the Ministry of Ocean Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia and the Department of Ocean and Coastal Resources of the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, as well as IUCN, Conservation International (CI), the Indonesian Academy of Sciences, the University of Malaya, the Third Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration of China as well as experts and scholars from other institutions attended the seminar and delivered excellent reports.
The workshop shared the successful experiences and practices of the construction and management of marine parks in China, and promoted the construction of eco-service network platform of China-ASEAN Ocean Parks, thus made its contribution in the construction of China-ASEAN Ocean Park ecosystem services, ocean park planning and management, ecological protection and restoration, regional ecological protection and blue economy development.
The workshop was organized by the Third Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration and the China-ASEAN Marine Cooperation Center and was supported by the State Oceanic Administration, Fujian Ocean and Fishery Department and Xiamen Ocean and Fishery Bureau. Deputy Director-General Chen Yue of the International Cooperation Department of the State Oceanic Administration, Associate Counsel Song Jianhua of the Department of Marine and Fishery Affairs of Fujian Province, and Director-General Yu Xingguang of the Third Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Deputy Director-General Chen Bin, presided over the seminar.
