The seventh annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ocean and Fisheries Working Group(OFWG) was held in Piura, Peru, from 20 to 22 September 2016. The meeting was one of the important events of the “APEC Food Security Week in 2016”. Representatives from 12 economies including Chile, China, Indonesia, Korea, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam, and the APEC Secretariat attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Patrick Moran, Interim Chairman of the Working Group. Mr. Hector Soldi Soldi, Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Representatives from the APEC Marine Sustainable Development Center, Bureau of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Third Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration, and National Oceanic Strategic Institute attended the meeting. The Chinese delegation submitted six documents at the meeting and organized a number of thematic reports around the blue economy, food security, marine debris management, marine sustainable report compiling, and ocean management capacity building training, held a number of bilateral talks with related economies, and achieved good results.
